The short version
- What it is
- A ready-made Toolspoke agent that lists the DocuSign envelopes stuck waiting on a signature, so the sender knows who to nudge.
- What it reads
- Envelopes sent and not completed, their recipients and each signer's status, without the document contents.
- Where it posts
- One Slack channel, chosen when you set it up.
- What it lists
- Envelopes waiting longer than your limit, 3 days by default, with who has not signed, since when, whether they opened it, and any decline or close expiry.

- Weekdays at 10am once you switch it on. If nothing is overdue it posts nothing.
- What it never does
- Send a reminder, void, send or create an envelope, post document contents, or message a signer.

What Contract signing chaser does
Contract signing chaser is an AI agent that checks DocuSign every weekday morning and posts one Slack list of the envelopes waiting too long for a signature, with who has not signed and since when.
A contract sent for signature is easy to forget. The sender moves on, the signer's email sinks, and two weeks later the deal is still not closed. DocuSign shows the status of each envelope, but nobody opens the sent folder every morning.
Automatic reminders help, but they go to everyone, at fixed times, in DocuSign's words. Often a short personal note from the sender works better, and the sender needs to know when to write it.
Contract signing chaser reads the envelopes that are sent and not completed, keeps the ones waiting longer than your limit, and finds which signer each one is waiting on. Declined envelopes and those close to expiry go first.
In practice, each weekday morning you get one list, or nothing:
- Declined envelopes, which need a decision, listed first
- Envelopes waiting longer than your limit, oldest first
- Who each is waiting on, since when, and whether they opened it
- Silence when nothing is overdue
How it works
Contract signing chaser works in four steps each weekday: it finds open envelopes, keeps the overdue ones, finds who has not signed and posts one list. All of it comes from the agent's written instructions, which you can read and edit after you install it.
Step 1: Find open envelopes
Envelopes sent or delivered and not completed, from the last 90 days.
Step 2: Keep the overdue
Those sent more than your limit ago, 3 days by default.
Step 3: Find who has not signed
Each signer's status, routing order and whether they opened it.
Step 4: Post one list
Grouped by sender, declines first, oldest first.
It reads status, not documents
Envelopes come from list_envelopes and get_envelope, and signers from list_recipients without tabs, so the agent sees names, statuses and dates but not what anyone typed into the contract.
It knows who the envelope is waiting on
When signers sign in order, a later signer has not received the envelope yet. The agent names the person it is actually waiting on, so the sender nudges the right one.
It puts urgent things first
A declined envelope needs someone to decide what happens next, and one expiring in the next three days will need sending again if it lapses. Both are listed before the rest.
It leaves the nudge to the sender
The DocuSign connection can send reminders and void envelopes. The agent is told never to. The limits are listed under what it will never do.
What a weekday list looks like
A message from Contract signing chaser is a single Slack post, grouped by sender. Declines come first, then each overdue envelope with the signer it is waiting on.

Envelopes waiting more than 3 days, set at install. 14 open, 4 overdue.
Declined (1)
- Master services agreement, Ortega Foods (sent by Hannah Cole): declined by Miguel Ortega on Monday. Reason given: payment terms.
Waiting (3)
- Order form, Pinecrest Hotels (Hannah Cole): waiting on Ruth Adams, 9 days, opened twice. Expires on Friday.
- NDA, Halden Robotics (Jamal Wright): waiting on Erik Halden, 5 days, not opened.
- Consulting agreement, Meridian Group (Jamal Wright): signed by Ana Ruiz, now waiting on Paul Stone, 4 days.
Within 3 days
10 envelopes still within the limit.
- Declined
Any envelope a recipient declined, with the date and the reason they gave. These need a person to decide what happens next.
- Waiting
Overdue envelopes, oldest first, with the signer it is waiting on, how long, whether they opened it, and a close expiry.
- Within the limit
A count of open envelopes not yet overdue, so the sender knows the list is complete.
Why it sometimes says nothing
If nothing has waited longer than the limit and nothing was declined, the agent posts nothing. A daily list saying all clear teaches people to ignore the channel.
A failed run is different. If DocuSign cannot be read, it posts that once, because a quiet morning and a failed one look the same.
Who uses Contract signing chaser
Contract signing chaser suits any team that sends contracts through DocuSign and loses track of the ones that stall. The examples use made-up names.
An account executive closing deals
Hannah Cole sends ten order forms a week. The morning list tells her which buyer to call before the deal goes cold.
A sales manager watching the pipeline
Victor Lindgren wants to know when a contract is declined, not at the end of the quarter. Declines come first in the list.
A people team sending offers
Aisha Bello sends offer letters and NDAs to new hires. The list shows which candidates have not opened theirs.
An operations lead with expiring envelopes
Noah Fischer used to find expired envelopes too late and resend them. The expiry note gives him a few days' warning.
What Contract signing chaser connects to
Contract signing chaser connects to two tools: it reads DocuSign and posts to Slack. You connect each one yourself, and Toolspoke stores the connection encrypted, so the agent never sees the credential.
Docusign
RequiredTrack envelopes and signers, read templates and audit trails, and prepare, send or void envelopes for signature.

Slack

| Tool | What Contract signing chaser does | What it cannot do |
|---|---|---|
| DocuSign | Reads envelopes and their recipients' status (list_envelopes, get_envelope, list_recipients). | Reach envelopes outside the connected account. It can send reminders, void, send and create envelopes, and this agent's instructions forbid all of them. |
| Slack | Posts one message with send_message, to a channel. | Delete messages: the connector has no delete action. It can also edit, schedule and react, and the agent is told to do none of them. |
That the agent does not send reminders or change envelopes is an instruction, not a lock. We recommend switching off DocuSign's send_reminder, void_envelope, send_envelope, create_draft_envelope and create_draft_from_template in your project, so the connection can only read. The access control guide explains how.
The DocuSign connection can also read document lists and the values signers entered. The agent is told not to read or post them: the subject line and the signer's name are enough.
What Contract signing chaser will never do
Contract signing chaser is told never to send a reminder, void, correct, send or create an envelope, and never to post a contract's contents. It lists, and the sender decides how to follow up.
- Send a reminder, void, correct, resend or send an envelope, or create a draft.
- Read or post a document's contents, a signer's entered fields, or any value from the envelope's tabs.
- Post a signer's email address or phone number.
- Message a signer, or mention anyone with @.
Why it does not send reminders
A reminder is an email to someone outside the company, often a customer in the middle of a negotiation. Whether to nudge, and how, depends on the deal. The sender knows; the agent does not.
Why it never voids or sends
Voiding an envelope cancels a contract in progress, and sending one commits the company to its terms. Both are decisions for the person who owns the contract.
What it keeps out of Slack
A sales channel is read by more people than the contract is. Prices, terms and anything a signer typed stay in DocuSign.
If something goes wrong
If DocuSign cannot be read, post that once. A quiet morning and a failed one look the same, and the sender should know which it was. If an envelope's recipients cannot be read, list it with "signer unknown".
These are written into Contract signing chaser's instructions. They guide the agent, but they are not a permission. What it is allowed to touch is set by the access you grant.
Contract signing chaser reads DocuSign and lists what is waiting. Every reminder, and every change to a contract, stays with the sender.
When Contract signing chaser runs
Contract signing chaser runs on weekdays at 10am, but only after you switch its schedule on. It arrives switched off, so nothing runs and nothing is charged until you decide.
- Each run reads open envelopes from the last 90 days.
- It lists those waiting longer than your limit.
- When nothing is overdue or declined, it posts nothing.
- If DocuSign cannot be read, it posts that once.
Each run uses model credit from your workspace balance, even when nothing is posted, so it makes five runs a week. The DocuSign and Slack calls themselves are free.
Your copy is an ordinary agent in your project. You can pause its schedule there, run it once on demand, change the days and time and edit its instructions. The agent's page lists recent runs and their cost.
How to set up Contract signing chaser
To keep track of unsigned contracts, add Contract signing chaser to a Toolspoke project, connect DocuSign and Slack, set your limit and switch on the schedule. It takes a few minutes, and nothing runs until the last step.
Step 1: Create a Toolspoke account or sign in
Choose Use this agent. If you are new, you will be asked to sign up first, and you come straight back to this agent afterwards.
Step 2: Add it to a project
Pick the project it should live in. You get your own editable copy, and you can see the two tools it brings before anything connects.
Step 3: Connect DocuSign
Sign in to DocuSign and approve the Toolspoke app. The agent sees envelopes the connected user can see.
Step 4: Switch off the actions it does not need
In your project, switch off DocuSign's reminder, void, send and draft actions, so the connection can only read.
Step 5: Connect Slack and set the limit
Sign in with Slack, then name the channel and how many days an envelope may wait. If you leave the limit out, it uses 3 and says so.
Step 6: Switch on the schedule
The schedule arrives switched off. Run it once to see a list, then switch it on.
Make Contract signing chaser fit your team
Contract signing chaser's instructions are plain English and you can edit them after you install it. Installing copies the agent, so your edits stay with your copy. Open the agent in Toolspoke and tell the builder what to change, and it rewrites the instructions.
Paste any sentence below into the builder chat, or say the same thing in your own words.
List envelopes waiting more than 5 days.
Only list envelopes sent by the sales team: Hannah Cole and Jamal Wright.
Run on Mondays and Thursdays at 10 AM.
This changes when the agent wakes up, so the builder edits its schedule, not the instructions.
Flag envelopes that expire in the next seven days.
Skip envelopes where every signer is from our own company.
None of these edits needs more access or touches the Never rules. They change what Contract signing chaser is told, not what the connections allow.
How it compares to other options
Contract signing chaser beats the alternatives when you want the sender to see every stuck contract in one place and choose how to follow up. It loses to them when you want reminders sent without anyone thinking about it.
| Compared on | Contract signing chaser | DocuSign automatic reminders | Checking the sent folder | A CRM task |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| One list of stuck contracts | Yes, daily | No | If you look | One task each |
| Names who it is waiting on | Yes | Not to you | Yes, per envelope | If you add it |
| Flags declines and expiry | Yes, first | Emails on decline | If you look | No |
| Lets the sender choose the nudge | Yes | No, fixed reminders | Yes | Yes |
| Sends reminders itself | No, told not to | Yes | No | No |
| Setup effort | Connect two accounts | A setting per envelope | None | A task per contract |
DocuSign's automatic reminders are the better choice when you want every signer chased on a fixed timetable with no effort. They do not tell the sender anything, and every signer gets the same email.
Checking the sent folder works for a few contracts. Once there are many senders and many envelopes, a list in the channel saves everyone opening DocuSign.
Frequently asked questions
Can Contract signing chaser send a reminder?
It is told never to. The DocuSign connection does have a reminder action, so for a lock, switch off send_reminder in your project (how access works).
Can it void or send an envelope?
It is told never to. The connection can void, send and create envelopes, and we recommend switching those actions off so it can only read.
Does it post contract contents to Slack?
No. It reads recipients without the values they entered, and is told never to read or post a document's contents. It posts the subject line, the signer's name and dates.
How long before an envelope is listed?
Three days by default. Set your own limit when you install it, or ask the builder to change it later.
Does it message the signer?
No. It posts only to the channel you choose, and never mentions or messages anyone. The sender decides who to contact.
Which envelopes does it see?
Those the connected DocuSign user can see, sent in the last 90 days and not yet completed.
Is Contract signing chaser free?
It has no price of its own, and every Toolspoke plan includes agents. Tool calls cost nothing, but each run draws on your usage balance. Pricing has the details.
